Prix Goncourt de la Nouvelle 2010

The Prix Goncourt de la Nouvelle (short story) was awarded to Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt for Concerto in Memory of an Angel, published by Albin Michel.

Concerto in Memory of an Angel

What has a woman who poisons her husbands one after the other to do with an amorous President of the Republic? What is the link between a sailor and an international crook selling religious souvenirs made in China? By what miracle does Saint Rita, patron saint of desperate causes, become the mysterious guide of their lives?

All these heroes might have made amends and chosen light over darkness. Each of them was once offered redemption. Some of them accepted, others refused, a few didn't even notice.

In this collection, four stories interweave. Four stories that trace the ordinary and the extraordinary of every life. Four stories that explore the question: are we free or do we all have a fate? Can we change?
Concerto in Memory of an Angel is followed by the diary Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt kept while he wrote the collection.

On sale from 4th March. The title came second on the list of best-sellers (source LivresHebdo).

Le sumo qui ne pouvait pas grossir

Jun is a rebellious teenager running wild on the streets of Tokyo away from his family to whom he refuses to speak.
His encounter with a master sumo wrestler, who spots his potential to be fat despite his slight frame, leads him into one of the most mysterious practices of the martial arts.
Through him, Jun discovers an unimagined world of strength, intelligence and self-acceptance.
But how can he become Zen when he is beset by grief and violence?
How can he become a sumo wrestler when he can't put on weight?Every cloud has a heavenly lining...

Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt's new novella follows Milarepa, Mr Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran, Oscar and the Lady in Pink and Noah's Child in the series Le Cycle de l'Invisible, bringing readers a tale about childhood and spirituality that goes right to the source of Zen Buddhism.

Milady – At the Theatre in Belgium

Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt’s Milady is a taut new adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ popular novel, The Three Musketeers. Intense, action-packed, funny and tender, Milady, starring Natacha Amal in the lead role, offers audiences a whirlwind of excitement, swashbuckling sentiment, sensational duels and epic imagery. This grand spectacle will be put on with the same cloak-and-dagger panache as the acclaimed Le Bossu, which drew 20,000 spectators in the summer of 2008.
