M. Ibrahim And The Flowers Of the Koran

Summary

A film by François Dupeyron with Omar Shariff and François Boulanger. In Paris of the sixties, a drifting Jewish teenager falls in with an old Arab grocer: an unusual encounter but one with a universal message. In the course of seemingly ordinary conversation, the old man passes on to the boy the doctrine of Sufism, the esoteric wisdom of Islam. He ends up unofficially adopting him and taking him off to explore new horizons, those of his own youth. Hand in hand, the pair travel from darkness to light.A simple story that goes right to the heart of things.François Dupeyron’s production brings to life working-class Paris in the sixties and the burgeoning friendship between a lonely teenager and an eccentric old man. Omar Sharif is superb in an equally splendid role.
